Whirlwind!
It has been awhile since the last post. Today is November 20, and it is the anniversary of Rick's Grandma Anna's passing. So, 35 years ago today we were driving straight through from Denver to Chicago to be with the family. In ways that seems so long ago, and then it also seems like yesterday. The first time I met Grandma Anna, a short, wide Polish lady, she we so sweet and going all out to praise her favorite, which she freely admitted, grandson...until he left the room. Then she was all business! The first thing out of her mouth was, "he will never marry You!" Wow! Rick and I had only just met a week or so before, so I wasn't even thinking about getting married! But I digress.
November 15, took us through Tennessee where we stopped to see my childhood friend, Jane. We haven't seen her in years...since they moved to Tennessee which was over 10 years ago!We left Jane's and toward Rock City Gardens. Rick was craving a "good buffet", one of those things that has been lost since COVID. And low and behold, his wish was granted! We found a Western Sizzlin'! As we were leaving, a couple stopped him, thinking he looked familiar. But in the conversation, they shared the scenic route to our destination for that evening, Raccoon Mountain Campground. Beautiful drive and great place to stay!
November 16, we headed to Rock City Gardens, Karsten's suggestion. The place was AMAZING. This link will take you to the history! Fascinating! We stood at Lover's Leap and could see 7 States, we wound through the rock croppings, Gnomes Overpass, a swing bridge, and into Fairyland all while viewing sustainable art along the way. This destination is truly magical and we do agree that it is a "Must See".
In some of the pics, you can see the rainbow created by the reflections of the glass installed in the rock. And there is also Fat Man's Squeeze...but we made it!
Fairyland takes you into the caverns lit by black lights creating all kinds fluorescing colors as you view the fairytales from childhood.
This winding path leads you all around the property. Through all the nooks and crannies. The imagination it took to create this place is indescribable!
